Steph's Musings

Wallet, Eco & Skin Friendly Laundry Detergent

This is SO simple, cheap, and safe.
I've found it works better than a lot of the all natural liquids for about five cents per load, and smells clean clean clean.  If you want an actual scent, you can add your favorite essential oils. Lavender and Tea Tree Oils work really nice. I have even washed my husbands greasy coveralls with this, and was thrilled with the results.

Ingredients:

2 bars of soap (i used sunlight from the laundry aisle, you can use ivory, or dove or your fave all natural)
1 box of washing soda
1 box of baking soda
1 box of Borax

With a cheese grater, grate the soap into a 5 gallon pail lined with a garbage bag.
Add remaining ingredients. Tie the bag off and mix around in the bag for about five minutes...No, a spoon will not work, pick it up and toss it around.

Pour back into pail to store.

Add a few drops of desired essential oil to each load.

Some recipes online will say to add a tub of Oxy Clean... this stuff is chemical and totally unnecessary.

I have a pretty glass canister sitting on the washing machine I store a smaller amount it, making the fact that it looks so darn cute an added benefit.

No Plastic, No Chemicals, No plants used in production. Awesome.
